Il gruppo di case chiamate “Cancelle” ha importanza perché si ricollega alla vita dei piccoli commerci aquilani.
Situate in Piazza del mercato fino alla costruzione del nuovo palazzo delle poste e oggi spostate in Via Simeonibus, rappresentano un esempio di casa-bottega del Quattrocento. I piccoli edifici a pianta rettangolare avevano ciascuno un piano terra diviso in bottega, retrobottega e scala, al piano superiore due camere. Ogni portale presenta due aperture, una ad arco rialzata sul piano stradale, utile per la vendita, e una di fianco più stretta e alta che veniva utilizzata come entrata. Le “Cancelle” prendono il loro nome dall’inferriata che divideva gli acquirenti dai commercianti.

The bunch of houses called “Cancelle” is important because its connection to the daily life of the small city trades.
Placed in Piazza del Mercato till the construction of the new post office and nowadays located in via Simeonibus, it represents an example of XV century home – workshop.
All the small rectangular buildings had a ground floor divided in work – shop, backroom, stairs and two rooms on the upper floor. Each gate shows two entrances, an arched one on the top of the street line which was used for trading, and another one on the side, tighter and higher, used as an entry. The “Cancelle” are so called after the grating dividing the sellers from the customers.

Die Gruppe von Häusern die als “Cancelle“ bezeichnet werden ist von Bedeutung weil sie die Verbindung zu den kleinen aquilanischen Händlern herstellt.
Angesiedelt am Marktplatz bis zur Errichtung des neuen Postgebäudes befinden sie sich heute in der Via Simeonibus und geben ein Beispiel für Geschäfte des 15. Jahrhunderts. Die kleinen Gebäude mit rechteckigem Grundriss hatten jeweils ein Erdgeschoss welches in den Laden, ein Hinterzimmer und ein Stiegenhaus unterteilt war. Im Obergeschoss befanden sich zwei Zimmer. Jedes Portal präsentiert zwei Öffnungen, eine mit erhobenen Bogen auf Höhe der Straße für den Verkauf und eine engere an der Seite die als Eingang diente. Die “Cancelle” haben ihren Namen von der Vergitterung die die Kunden von den Händ-lern trennt.

El conjunto de casas, llamadas “Cancelle” tiene una importancia conectada con la vida de los pequeños comerciantes de L’Aquila.
Estaban situadas en la Plaza Mayor, hasta la construcción del palacio del Correo y hoy están desplazadas a la calle Simeonibus. Las casas representan ejemplos de pequeñas tiendas del 1400. Cada una, de planta rectangular, tenía una planta baja, dividida en tienda, trastienda y escalera, y una planta superior con dos habitaciones. Cada portón presenta dos aberturas, una arcada se realza hacia la calle por el despacho, y la otra más estrecha y alta, funcionaba de entrada. Las “Cancelle” eran llamadas así por las rejas que dividían los clientes de los comerciantes.
